Memories for a Lifetime – Father and Son Fishing
Life goes by so fast and we all seem to be so busy; family tends to get put on the back burner in many cases. I am not sure if I am getting older or whether it is work or technology but world feels like it is at the fastest pace it has been ever before in my life. One thing that I can honestly say that keeps me grounded is my special time on the river with clients.
Last week I was lucky to take out 2 long time clients Peter and Geoff for their annual “father and son” fishing adventure. I have watched Geoff grow up from a young teenager to a man in the many years we have fished together. There is much ribbing and camaraderie that happens in our time together. The father and son part seems to get thrown out the window and these two men fish like buddies and long time friends, I marvel at their great relationship during our days together.
We have always seemed to be lucky on our trips together and this Sturgeon fishing trip was no different. I joke with them as we travel on our 1st day to the fishing spot, “well can we keep our lucky streak alive boys”. Not soon after baiting up the rods with Eulachon and lamprey we see the first bite, Peter looks to Geoff and says “that’s your fish son”, and he gladly hooks up the first fish. They took turns sharing fish and catch up stories with me over the 2 days as I did in turn with them. These types of fishing adventure experiences seem to be much more than just fishing trips, they are special memory making days that will never be forgotten by any of us onboard.
I personally see my work (most people laugh when I call this work) as the most fulfilling job in the world. To be able to enjoy my clients; who have become my friends and to be a part of their time together is heart warming to say the least. I seem to wonder if there will ever be a time I retire from this but the truth be known, I don’t see that happening anytime soon with so many people to fish with and to create memories with.
For the record, we caught numerous fish; almost a new 2-day record and I can’t wait to fish with these two great guys again.
Cheers and great fishing, forever, Dean <”)))><
